Built to change

Winsteps and Facets are built to change. I keep them as backward-compatible as possible - all the way back to 1986! But new features are continually introduced. Recent version no longer run under Windows-95. But Windows 98-SE and Windows NT 3.51 are still supported. Windows Vista and Office 2007 will be a challenge. Microsoft is dropping some Windows-backward-compatibility, and this is going to impact all Windows software developers. Ugh!

At IOMW in Berkeley in 1995, a beautiful Rasch software program was demonstrated. It was definitely state-of-the-art. But it lacked some features. I asked the developer what he was going to add next. He responded something like "It's completed. I'm moving on to another project." So, in a few years, that program faded away. Sad .... The story is that Leonardo da Vinci never finished the Mona Lisa. He was always improving that picture. So it is with Winsteps and Facets ...
