RMT 19:4 downloadable

Rasch Measurement Transactions 19:4 rmt194.pdf is published, at last! Only two months late .... But that delay gave me the opportunity to attend IOMW2006 in San Francisco.

Listening to the Papers at that Conference, reminded me how easy it is for me to forget the meaning of all that algebra I encounter every day. David Andrich has the intriguing concept of "thin" and "thick" variables. The progression from thin to thick is straightforward. But thick to thin is challenging. But it is this progression that is the history of measurement in the physical sciences. A rough "thick" concept like temperature gradually becomes more and more refined into the almost abstract concept it is today.
